Off the coast of Los Angeles can be found the Channels Islands archipelago. Once an earthly paradise, it has been successively colonized by American native peoples, the Spanish conquistadors, cattle farmers and even the stars of Hollywood. Overwhelmed by centuries of motorhuman presence, the ecosystem of the islands has recently been the subject of a radical program of ecological restoration. Telling the story of the Channel Islands is telling the story of humanity’s relationship with the planet.
